23. Who warranties my watch or jewelry item

All of our watches come with manufacturer's warranty paperwork and documentation, and most of the watches we sell should be sent directly to the manufacturers service departments should there be a warranty covered issue. For warranties that are not serviced by the manufacturer, we provide a 2 year ltd. warranty similar to the one offered by manufacturers. Our team of skilled watch-makers and watch repairmen are certificated to work with watches worth well over $100,000.00. Please note, depending what's wrong with the watch, most repairs will take approximately 2 weeks. However sometimes (rarely) a part may be back-ordered and may take longer. If this is the case we will notify you by e-mail of this. You can always contact us to check the status of your watch repair. Some of our watches come with a manufacturers international warranty. If this is the case the watch description will state "international warranty". Otherwise, all warranty work, manufacturer’s or our own, are done domestically.

24. Do you size watches?

Yes we do. We downsize FREE of charge (there will be a nominal charge for upsizing depending on the size of the bracelet of the watch needed) For sizing, if you do not know your wrist-size, simply take a tape measure and wrap it around your wrist, not too tight, not too loose, and give us the measurement within an 1/8’’ of an inch up. We will advise you on how to ship it to us. You have 30-days from original purchase for FREE downsizing – after which there may be a nominal charge to do so. We strongly suggest that you do not attempt to size the watch on your own. Once a watch is sized it may not be returned.

25. What is a "Watch Movement" and how many types are there?

The main difference between a quartz watch and a mechanical watch is that a quartz watch runs on a battery and a mechanical watch has an intricate movement that is relied on to keep time. There are two types of mechanical watches: manual and self-winding automatic. Here is a detailed explanation of each type.

QUARTZ WATCHES

If you are looking for a watch you can rely on for accuracy, we would recommend a quartz watch. You never have to worry about winding it or wearing it in order for it to work. In Quartz watches, a specially designed battery activates a Quartz crystal inside the movement that vibrates approximately 33 times per second. These vibrations translate into impulses by a computer chip that drives an electronic motor, which moves the watch's hands.

MECHANICAL WATCHES

If you are the type of person who appreciates mechanical things, or the beauty of the complications found in a mechanical movement, a mechanical watch is right for you. Mechanical watches typically run forabout 40 hours on one full winding of the mainspring. The power reserve on a watch indicates how much time a watch will function when not worn, or until it is wound up again. Few watches on the market today can run up to 8-10 days without being wound. Some prefer to use a watch winder so that their automatic watch can run continuously without being worn.

Manual

In a manual watch, the wearer must turn the crown (button on the outside of the watch's case) to wind the mechanism.

Self Winding Automatic

In a self-winding or automatic watch, you do not need to wind the mechanism, you just need to wear the watch. The movement in an automatic watch is activated by a rotor, which turns by the force of gravity with the regular movements of the wearer's wrist. Automatic watches are more or less reliable, although at their worst, they can gain or lose about 10 seconds per day. An automatic timepiece needs to be worn for about 10-15 hours until it is fully wound. COSC certified automatic movements (called chronometers) are tested by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute ("Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres") and can gain 6 or lose 4 seconds per day (-5/+8 for watches with a diameter greater than 20mm).

26. Can I go swimming with the watch?

From our experience, we would not recommend to swim with a watch that has a water resistance of less than 100 meters or 10 bars/atm’s. Watches used to be deemed "waterproof," however, the International Organization for Standardization prohibited the use of the term waterproof. They also issued a standard for water resistant watches. Water resistant watches are made up of special gaskets which form a watertight seal. A sealant is applied as well, to help keep the water out. The material of the case is also tested to pass as water resistant. Watches are tested for water resistance in still water. It must be noted that a watch with a certain meter rating is tested for water resistance under still water, with the watch being stationary. It does not take into account if the watch can withstand the pressure that is generated by motion at that depth of water. It is important to keep this in mind when you are purchasing a water resistant watch. If your watches water resistance is not measured in meters, you can approximate it's resistance by multiplying BARS or ATM's (atmospheres) by 10. General Guidelines are as follows, but keep in mind that it depends on a specific watches recommendations. Check your watch manual before using near water. Always remember to make sure your crown is pushed/screwed down before immersing in water!

1000 meter/3300 feet

DIVERS 150 meters/500 feet

DIVERS 200 meters/660 feet - Suitable for scuba diving but not professional deepwater diving.

26. What is your warranty policy for your Jewelry products?

Our men's and women's fine gold and diamond jewelry is backed by a one year warranty. This means, during normal wear, should there be a malfunction in your jewelry item we will repair or replace (at our discretion) the jewelry item. Items subjected to neglect, abuse and/or acts of God are not covered by this warranty.

27. What is the return policy on Herzog Designer 18k accessories?

Due to the custom nature of the Herzog 18k Gold Designer Men’s Jewelry Collection, there will be a 20% restocking fee for the return of all Herzog 18k gold men’s accessories. Some Herzog 18k men’s accessories may be considered special order and hence non-returnable. If this is the case, the description of the item will state that it is a Special Order.

27. Why is there an issue with my Automatic Watch?

For a self-winding watch to work correctly, the mainspring must build up a sufficient power reserve. Many people do not know that a self-winding watch needs to be wound manually before it will run automatically. This is called the initiation process. Without the initiation process, the timepiece will not operate correctly or on a constant basis.

In order to initiate the power reserve, the watch has to be wound manually. Turn the winding crown, in a clockwise direction for abut 30 to 40 revolutions. This start up wind is usually enough for most automatic watches.

After the initiation process has been completed, the watch will automatically wind itself by means of an oscillating weight (rotor) that shifts when the watch is moved from being worn.

A self-winding watch needs to be worn for a minimum of eight (8) hours a day to maximize the power reserve. If this can not be done, or if the timepiece has not been worn or moved for more than 15 – 20 hours, the initiation process needs to be repeated.
